Scudder Roofing is searching for skilled and experienced residential and commercial composition shingle roofers to join our award-winning team in Marina, CA. We have immediate openings for skilled, hard-working installers who take pride in quality workmanship and know how to work as part of a team! As a Composition Shingle Roofer on our team, you'll be responsible for the installation, repair, and replacement of asphalt shingle roofing systems on residential properties throughout California's coastal regions. You'll work with both 3-tab and architectural shingles, ensuring every installation meets manufacturer specifications, building codes, and our high-quality standards.
Responsibilities:
· Install, repair, and replace asphalt shingle roofing systems (3-tab, architectural, and specialty shingles) on residential and commercial homes
· Remove old roofing materials and prepare roof decks for new installations
· Install underlayment, ice and water shield, drip edge, and flashing systems
· Measure, cut, and fit shingles to ensure proper alignment, overlap, and water drainage
· Install valley flashing using open, closed-cut, or woven valley methods as specified
· Properly nail shingles according to manufacturer specifications and high-wind requirements
· Install hip and ridge cap shingles with proper overlap and fastening
· Flash roof penetrations including chimneys, vents, skylights, and pipe boots
· Install and integrate flashing at roof-wall intersections
· Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and roof layouts
· Calculate material requirements and waste factors for shingle installations
· Ensure proper ventilation installation including ridge vents and soffit vents
· Apply roofing cement and sealants where specified for enhanced weather protection
· Stock roofs safely with bundles of shingles without damaging underlayment
· Maintain proper shingle exposure, alignment, and pattern consistency
· Complete thorough job site cleanup including removal of all old materials, nails, and debris
· Transport roofing materials and equipment to and from job sites
· Set up and safely use ladders, scaffolding, and safety equipment
· Follow all safety protocols and OSHA requirements at all times
· Work collaboratively with team members to meet project deadlines
· Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and customers
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
· 3+ years of proven experience installing asphalt shingle roofing systems
· Hands-on experience with both 3-tab and architectural shingles
· Knowledge of proper valley installation techniques (open, closed-cut, woven)
· Understanding of flashing installation for penetrations and roof-wall intersections
· Experience with underlayment and ice/water shield installation
· Ability to properly nail shingles (correct placement, depth, and quantity)
· Physical ability to carry bundles of shingles (60+ lbs) up ladders and across roofs
· Comfortable working at heights on steep-slope roofs in various weather conditions
· Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work on sloped surfaces for extended periods
· Strong balance and coordination for safe work on residential roofs
· Valid and clean driver's license with reliable transportation
· Self-motivated with a production-minded approach to roofing work
· Excellent attention to detail for proper shingle alignment and installation
· Good mathematical skills for calculating measurements and material quantities
· Solid interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong work ethic and commitment to core values
· Dedication to following all safety protocols and OSHA requirements
· Ability to climb up and down ladders repeatedly throughout the day
· Must pass a physical, drug test, and permissible background check
· Must have references available
Preferred:
· Experience with high-wind installation techniques for coastal applications
· Knowledge of manufacturer specifications for various shingle brands
· Familiarity with California building codes and coastal installation requirements
· OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification
· Experience with complete tear-offs and re-roofs
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
